Doug Wetton
Principal
A graduate of the University of Southern California with broad experience in the acquisition of apartments development of Storage and shopping centers in both Southern and Northern California, Mr. Wetton is a specialist in property acquisition, development, leasing, managing and financing.
Since 1986, he has worked for some of the most prestigious development firms in Southern California, among them Grubb & Ellis, The Brookhollow Group, Bollenbacher & Kelton, Inc., Pacific Land Brokerage and President of Progressive Realty Partners, Inc./and Principal/Officer in Trico Development, Inc. He has been a licensed California real estate broker since 1992 and has been a Certified Shopping Center Manager and member of the International Council of Shopping Centers since 1988. During his career he co-founded his own real estate brokerage company. Pacific Land Brokerage, who successfully acquired apartment buildings and shopping centers, and handled 2,000,000 square feet of tenant lease transactions. His acquisition and management credits also have included office buildings and mobile-home parks.
Among Mr. Wetton's most recent successful projects are the acquisition, syndication, rehabilitation and management of over 1500 Southern California student & market rate apartment units. He is currently the President & CEO of Doug Wetton Properties, Inc. and Wetton Investment Properties, Inc.
Thomas Knapp
Principal
Thomas Knapp is a longtime RE investor and partner on multi-family and residential properties throughout California. Since 2015, Tommy has been active in the student housing market as a member of the team that has acquired over 800+ bed-spaces during the past few years. Mr. Knapp was a founding Board of Directors member of Colony American Homes one of the early leading REIT’s in the single family home rental market. In addition, Mr. Knapp served as a board member and Chairman of the audit committee for Starwood Waypoint Homes, NYSE SFR, a leading Real Estate company in the single-family home business through 2017 prior to the merger with Invitation Homes. In addition, Mr. Knapp currently serves on the Board of Directors of Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. a leading insurer based in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Mr. Knapp is the Academic Director and Associate Professor of Clinical Entrepreneurship at the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, where he has lectured since 2008. In addition, Knapp is a leading National Educator with the NSF I-Corps program. Mr. Knapp is an active investor and partner in multi-family and student housing real estate with projects throughout California. Mr. Knapp also serves as President of Club Sportswear, Inc., a leader in the beach apparel industry, which he founded in 1984. He also has consulted for Billabong International, LTD, an Australia-based company engaged in the wholesaling and retailing of surf, skate, snow and sports apparel, where he previously served as President of GSM Investments for three years. Prior to his time at Billabong, Mr. Knapp founded and held senior management roles with other successful companies in the apparel industry such as Honolua Surf Co., where he served as President, and True Textiles, Inc., where he served as Chairman.
Mr. Knapp is on the Board of Directors and the Chair of the Finance Committee for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, a charity providing grants to athletes with physical disabilities and Semester at Sea, a 55 year old organization leading worldwide university courses in higher education around the globe. Previously, he served on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Marine Institute and the American Oceans Campaign.
Mr. Knapp graduated from the University of Southern California, with a B.S. and MBA in Business Administration.
J.P. Knapp
Principal
JP Knapp has been active in multi-family real estate investment since 2011. JP entered the industry with founding the Koto Group Inc, a multi-family specialized management and investment company located in Santa Barbara. Under his guidance, this boutique firm has grown to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, managing over 80 properties on the central coast, including direct oversight of $30M in renovation projects since 2012.
Mr. Knapp has focused on incorporating design forward elements in his various multi-family and commercial projects, and has branched out into the co-working industry, with the creation of the two premier co-working spaces on the Central Coast. Mr. Knapp currently serves on the board of Impact Hub Santa Barbara, and oversees expansion efforts.
Mr. Knapp graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in History.
Joe Shipley
Principal
In July 2012, Joe Shipley joined Doug Wetton Properties, located in Costa Mesa, CA. Doug Wetton Properties and Wetton Investment Properties specialize in multifamily residential property acquisition, disposition, and management in Southern California and Arizona.
Since his hire date, he has been involved in the acquisition of 11 multi-family assets totaling over 1100 units. Upon acquisition of the 11 assets, Mr. Shipley coordinated the renovation efforts to re-position the properties to the market, for successful lease up, specializing in operational aspects for DWP. Mr. Shipley also runs the Property Management Division of Doug Wetton Properties and oversees 600 units from San Diego to Los Angeles.
Prior to this Mr. Shipley exclusively marketed a $301M, 556 unit, high-rise condominium project in downtown Long Beach, the largest on the southern California coast at the time.
Mr. Shipley received his bachelor's degree with dual majors in Business Management and Marketing from Northern Arizona University (N.A.U).
